Books, Books, and, uh, Books
Okay, sorry I haven't posted in so long. I've been gone. Anyway, I read a lot while I was gone. Here is a list of the books I liked best. 1. To Darkness Fled I got the first book in the Blood of Kings Trilogy out of the library. It's a High Fantasy (or Epic Fantasy, whichever you want to call it) but the library says it's science fiction. How weird is that? Anyway, the first book is called By Darkness Hid. It's the story of a stray (orphan) slave named Achan Cham who is given the opportunity to be a squire, and a young woman who is pretending to be a boy named Vrell Sparrow to avoid marrying the future king, who only wants to marry her so he can get his hands on her money and land. Book Two, To Darkness Fled, is amazing! I won't give any specifics because it would give away what happened in Book One. I recommend it to all fantasy lovers. People who like historical fiction might not mind it much either. Jill Williamson, the author, somehow always manages to come up with an ending that I would never have expected. The last book in the trilogy came out on April Fool's Day (which would be a few days ago. A few people asked her if it was an April Fool's Joke, including me. The Last Olympian There were few surprises for me in this book, because I'd already heard what happens. It's a bit dark in places, but still enjoyable. It's not my favorite book in the Percy Jackson series, though. My favorite was The Titan's Curse. 3. Caleb + Kate I don't normally read romance, but after reading about it on http://www.christiswrite.blogspot.com/, I decided to give it a try. (After all, name one writer who only reads one or two genres.) The book was good. It's supposed to be Christian, but it didn't feel like that all the time. I don't recommend it for anyone who isn't at least thirteen, or older, depending on what your parents say. 4. The Tempest So I read Shakespeare. If you want to learn from it, I suggest you don't try to copy his style of dialogue. They saw Shakespeare isn't just for an age, but for all time. Well, his style of dialogue isn't, unless you're a poet. The Tempest is interesting, but you have to know the storyline before you read it or you might be very confused. And here's a list of books I want to read, though I haven't yet for various reasons. 1. From Darkness Won (book Three from Blood of Kings, I intend on buying this one) 2. Hunger Games 3. The Word Reclaimed 4. The Swords of Six 5. The Healer's Apprentice 6. Point Blank (book two from the Alex Rider Series) 7. The God Hater (don't judge a book by its cover... or title. It's about a strong atheist who has to design a philosophy for people in a computer program.) Hope that inspires someone to go open a book.

Laptop Update!!!!!!!!
My lap top is pretty much toast. My brother was using it yesterday and ran into a few problems, so he turned it off. I brought it to my room and tried it. It worked for a little while, but if I leave it on for a certain about of time, the screen suddenly goes black, two little lights on the front start to flash, and the humming sound all computers make starts going a billion miles an hour, like it's going to explode or something. Not that the other problem wasn't bad, but this is worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's the main problem. Normally, I could afford to replace the lap top. Sure, it would make a significant dent in my savings, but the money would have gone to a good cause. Now, I'm saving my pennies to go on a trip to a huge chorale festival with my choir. I don't have the money for a lap top! The last one was a castoff from my dad's work, because it has to be hooked up all the time and you can't take it anywhere unless there's electricity, and if the slightest pressure is exerted on the plug it shuts off rather suddenly. Now this! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO??????????

It occurred to me that I'll I've been posting for the past little while is clips of animals and strange parodies. So I have decided to blog about my writing and recent happenings in my world, two of the reasons I started this blog.
First off,
Now that I finally have a laptop, I can work much faster. I've also discovered that if you move a laptop the wrong way when it's on your bed, and the connection to the plug isn't that great, your computer will automatically shut off. ARG!!! It's so annoying!!! Ah, well, I guess nobody ever got anything done complaining about it. I'm doing quite a bit more writing now, that's for certain. Getting everything on the computer is a step up. That way, everything can be done so much more quickly, and it isn't a headache to go back and change something.
Secondly,
I'm taking a writing class. Not that I haven't taken them before. I took an online one with Laura Tomas. I also took an Excellence in Writing class on a DVD. Not the greatest class I've ever taken. The guy who taught it on the DVD cared way too much about he proper formatting for a three keyword outline and whether you used all the decorations on his list (which included an ly word, the word because, etc. And he completely banned the words "said" "ate" "saw" and "thought". They spend two years teaching us not to use those words then spend two more years teaching us to use them again. Well, anyway, back to my current writing class. This class is actually taught in a classroom, for once, and I know the name of the book the teacher wrote, a young adults book called "Losing Faith", about a girl whose sister, Faith, dies. We're not that far into the course yet, but it's fun. There are no other girls in the class who like fantasy, so I got partnered up with the only boy, who loves Lord of the Rings. I have tried on numerous occasions to read that series, but I can never get through it.

Have learned something about fantasy. On a website, I found a sample query letter for the fantasy novel To Darkness Fled. Or maybe it was By Darkness Hid. Both books are by Jill Williamson. Anyway, she said she researched medieval history for three months before writing her Blood of Kings trilogy. For my next attempt at a fantasy, I'm doing the same. I'm going to do more research before I start, but I think I'll take a stab at writing the first paragraph here.
The hut sat in the middle of the woods, the golden sun beaming down through the canopy of green leaves. It was nothing to remark upon. The roof was thatch, as all roofs were. The walls were made from rough stone, as weather beaten as the rest of the cottage. The soft grass ran straight up to the building. It had grown tall over the years, although a path had been beaten to the old, rough hewed oaken door by the feet of the villagers who constantly came to visit the old man who lived there. Encircling the clearing was was a forest of tall trees that stood like old guardians, watching the cottage to ensure no harm would come to its occupants.
