I have, at last, decided to start a new story. I decided not to tell the dragon story, (maybe next time, Scezzle) because I had no ideas for it, really. My new story is called On the Run. (Not an imaginative title, but I'm sure I'll come up with something better later.) Be sure to check it out!

I would say Misc, but that's all my posts ever are...

I'm sort of in the writing doldrums right now. I can't do any thinking about my writing because I'm bored with all my ideas. I finished one story and went to work on another, and now I'm incredibly bored with it. I do next to no writing, aside from blogging. My sci fi needs more of an idea before I start working on the outline. I'm bored with everything else I'm writing. I don't want to start any new files on my laptop because I've already got enough. My writing has come to resemble the Lathargian's schedule, pretty much. (If you don't get it, read The Phantom Tollbooth. It's a book for younger ages, but still worth reading. In it, the doldrums are a place where you are forbidden to think, and the Lathargians are the creatures that live in them. Their schedule is lying around and doing nothing. You have to read the book, though.) I guess you could call it writer's block.

I'll have to see if there's a way I can get rid of it, aside from staring at a blank piece of paper. Maybe I just need to take a break from fantasy. That might help, if I get a good idea. Maybe I should just do some serious reading, see if I can unearth a new idea.

Well, anyway, my book life has consisted of mostly reading for the last couple days. I haven't been reading much new, except for Auralia's Colors. I've been reading The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet, too. Well, I finished them both, so I reread them. I also read Prisoners of Hope. It's about two women who were doing mission's work in Afghanistan during the reign of the Taliban, and how they were imprisoned for telling people about God.

Watched The Voyage of the Dawn Treader last night, finally. I didn't like the book that much, but the movie was an improvement. They didn't stick to the original story very well. Eustace doesn't get turned back into a human until the climax, and they had to sail into dark island to get the seventh sword. The part when Edmund accidentally turned a sea serpent on everyone seemed kind of dumb to me. And the part at the end where Aunt Alberta yells for Eustace because Jill Pole was visiting didn't fit in with the books at all. According to the books, he didn't have any friends at all until after Narnia. ("His parents called him Eustace Clarence and teachers called him Scrub. I can't tell you what his friends though of him, for he had none." If you recite that part just right, it makes people laugh seriously hard.) I liked the movie, still.

Bye for now. Happy Easter!

HAVE YOU BEEN PAYING ATTENTION???? and Other Things

Hey, everybody. I keep asking what you guys want for after "The Mystery on Stage". But I'm not getting answers from anyone but Scezzle!!!!!! I want your honest opinions here, okay? Here are some ideas for my next stories. (If anyone who doesn't have a blogger account wants to suggest something, just comment anonymously.)

1. A spy goes undercover to protect a girl who's a target for a kidnapping. To do it, she has to join a profession choir... and she has a voice like a crow with a sore throat.

2. A girl moves to the country, taking with her a strange stone that has been passed down in the family for years. She gets a bit of a surprise when it hatches - and a dragon comes out.

3. A girl gets a nasty shock when she finds out her older sister's occupation - internationally feared computer hacker. She soon finds herself involved in a game of cat and mouse. She finds herself surrounded on both sides, even the good guys are looking for her, and there's only one thing she can do - run.

4. If anybody wants another "Mystery on Stage" involving Ophelia, I'm sure she'd be happy to come back again and act in another play. Eric will not be involved because the theater said he couldn't come back after the stunts he pulled last time. Kate may be involved, and Melina makes up her own mind on these things.

Okay, now we've gone through that, here's a random descriptive thing.

My shoes hurt. They're soaked with sweat and they dig into the backs of my heels. Since I've forgotten my nylons, it hurts even worse. The only thing I can think about is when I can take these off and pull on something that doesn't squish my toes into an unnatural shape. My dress is heavy and hot. Despite the fact it looks good on me, it's causing me to sweat even more. This scarf I'm wearing isn't helping matters. Honestly, do they think we're cold on stage?

Yes, I have experienced similar feelings. For my choir, we have to wear ballet flats, and they hurt my feet. Then, of course, there's my nylons. Forgot them for a recent concert. Trust me, it is very painful. The scarf was from a winter concert. It was supposed to look nice under the lights. I'm sure it did, but it did nothing except make the line from Sleigh Ride "Our cheeks are nice and rosy and comfy cozy are we" more accurate. A lot more accurate.

Owl City Fans... can you believe what Adam Young has done? HE'S POSTPONED HIS ALBUM'S RELEASE FOR A MONTH!!!!!!!!!! This makes me very upset! Doesn't he realize he has fans out there waiting who are now very upset because of him! I need something to listen to while I'm writing, and I like Owl City for that! At least my birthday hasn't been postponed... I'm asking my little sister to get me the Maybe I'm Dreaming album... but DOESN'T HE REALIZE WE'RE GOING CRAZY WAITING? ARRRRRGGGG!!!!!
Okay, all my recent posts have been about is Owl City and Books I've been reading. Time for a little talk about my own writing.

First off, I'm working on plans for a sci fi. I have yet to figure out a plot for it, but I have two characters who are signed up and one who's saying he wants in on the action, though I have yet to figure him out. I don't know what's going to happen. I just know that whatever turns out should be interesting, especially with one of the characters who was originally asking for the part of protagonist. She's a POV character most definitely, but she probably won't get to be protagonist anymore. I have another character (whose name has yet to be determined) who's saying she might do a better job than the other one.

Now, what am I actually writing at the moment? Fantasy. (Anyone who reads this blog frequently will probably gave guessed that without being told.) Anyway, this is probably the first time I've tried writing from the POV of several different characters all throughout the story. It's a medieval fantasy, and I think it's going fairly well. I know the basics of what's going to happen, but I'm leaving it open to surprises, too.

Anyway, I asked this a few weeks ago, and I'm going to ask again - what do you people want for the next story? Do you want another mystery about Ophelia? Or a fantasy? Or WHAT? I don't really know what to write, so throw your suggestions my way. And throw them hard!

Owl City - Swimming In Miami (Lyrics)

Yes, I know, three owl city songs in a day! That's a lot! It's addictive (only you don't get unpleasant side effects. That, of course, depends on what you judge as unpleasant. If you don't want to catch yourself singing them all the time, then it's unpleasant.) I haven't said this yet today, so here it is: I LOVE OWL CITY!!!!!!!

Rainbow Veins (With Lyrics!) by Owl City

I've been posting a lot of Owl City recently, haven't I? Like I said, way contagious!

Hot Air Balloon-Owl City *With Lyrics*

"I'l be out of my mind, and you'll be out of ideas pretty soon..." Is Owl CIty contagious? Sure feels like it. And if it is, the sickness it comes with "isn't so bad, til I look at my hands and see sad..." SEE! It's stuck in my head (and I'm so glad it is...)

Hunger Games

Got Hunger Games out from the library this afternoon. I just finished it about half an hour ago. (I am what is commonly referred to as a fast reader.) Anyhow, I LOVED it. So does Stephen King. (I have never read his books.) Stephanie Meyer (or is it Meyers? I can't remember) has a quote on the front page. She also enjoys it. (I do NOT read the Twilight Saga - my feelings about it are this - blood is not something any human should legally be allowed to drink - and there are plenty of people who consider themselves vampires nowadays, because Twilight inspired them to become one. I'm not making this up.)

In any case, for those of you who have not yet read Hunger Games... READ IT!!!!! (I also read the first book in A Series of Unfortunate Events this afternoon. Like I said, I'm a fast reader.) Hunger Games is set in the future. What was once North America has become twelve districts, along with the Capitol. Once, there was a rebellion, and to punish everyone for it, the government decided to invent The Hunger Games. The Games are a modern gladiator sport, in which two children from each district are forced to fight to the death.

This year, Katniss's sister is old enough to enter the drawing. She only has one slip, while Katniss has twenty. There's no way Prim will be picked... right? The odds, however, are not in her favor, and she is drawn. In desperation, Katniss volunteers to go in her place. There's no chance she'll survive this, but Prim would have ever less chance. The other person from her district is Peeta, who once helped her when her family was starving. She doesn't know how she's going to kill anyone, but she knows she'll have to. Besides, she'll probably be weeded out and killed at the beginning... or will she?

I love this book!!!!!! The only disappointing bit is the end. I mean, I know it's part of a trilogy and all, but we could have at least found out what happens to them. I mean, they're headed for a life of fame and fortune... hopefully.

Saturday, April 9, 2011

Okay, this is my condensed version of a tag I found on some one's blog. I removed a few question because I didn't really think they were necessary. (Okay, it was also like 70 questions or something and I didn't want to copy that all out.) 1. What's the word count? No clue. 2. Do you have an outline? Sort of. 3. How much do you write in a day? That depends. 4. Which character would you be friends with? Don't really know. Annelise enjoys some of the things I do, though, so probably her. She enjoys studying legends and archery. (I've only held a bow twice in my life, but I still enjoy it immensely.) 5.Who is your favorite character? My main character, Annelise Howard. 6. Is there any magic? Um, not good magic. I do have a few bad guys who use it. 7. Are there any holidays? No, unless you count summer break. 8. Does anyone die? Well, at one point in the story, I killed off a character named Sunny, then brought her back later when they needed her. It was the only way for Annelise to convince someone to help them. I should probably kill off a few characters at the climax. 9. What is the best line? No clue. 10. What is the worst line? I don't really know. I haven't been able to work on it for a week or two. 11. Have you dreamed about your novel? No. 12. Summarize your novel in under fifteen words. "A teenager who sees fantasy animals goes in search of a legendary queen." Something like that. 13. What was the last thing your character ate? Probably a granola bar. 14. Describe your main character in three words. I'm still figuring out exactly what she's like. She doesn't like sitting around useless when there's a major problem like the one she's facing. 15. Have you ever done anything cruel to increase a word count? Not yet, but I'm thinking of putting Annelise into a fight to increase the drama and the length of the first chapter. It really needs it. 16. What would your antagonist dress up as for Halloween? I'm still getting to know him, because he doesn't really like showing his face around my main character. He would probably go as a wizard, which is what he is, after all. Any magic tricks he performed would be very realistic. (Weird thing about my antagonist - he doesn't mind tons of people dying so he can have what he wants, but he does mind his little sister, who's trying to defeat him, falling off a cliff.) 17. Are there any explosions? No, but there's an incident on the bus which could result in one. Maybe a bus crash could liven things up a bit more. 18. Are there zombies, vampires or werewolves in your story? No zombies or vampires, but the antagonist seems to enjoy sending a werewolf after the main characters. I also have a fox made from fire. (I got the idea from the story that the Northern Lights are the waving tails of foxes made from fire.) Annelise defeats the fox after he jumps into a lake, which puts out the fire. 19. Is anyone mentally or physically ailed? No. 20. Are there dream sequences? Yes. 21. Is there humor? I certainly hope so. 22. Is there tragedy? I would hope a major character falling off a cliff would count as that. 23. How many characters end up single? A grand total of all of them. 24. Does anyone wear glasses? Yes, Jared does. 25. Have characters been drawn? No, though I have clear pictures of several in my head. 26. Does anyone throw up? No. 27. Does anyone bleed? I would hope so! If somebody slashes them with a sword and they don't bleed, there must be something wrong with them. :) Yes, my characters bleed if they are wounded, which happens not infrequently. My main character, Annelise, smashes up against a window during a fight on a bus. 28. Do characters watch TV? NOT AS A HABIT!!!!!!! I have one scene where they see something on a TV at a bus station, but nothing else. 29. How would you react if your story was completely erased. Let's just put it this way - I would probably scream so loudly you could hear me across the street, then start crying. If it was erased of its own accord. If someone was responsible for it... 30. Do you cry when killing/maiming characters? No. Of course, I always miss them for a few pages, but I get over it. And I sometimes have them come back later in the story, alive. 31. Describe your ending in three words. "The Darkness evaporates." Something like that. 32. Are there any love triangles? I considered one, but decided against it.

Misc.

Okay, time for a little question and answer time. I ask questions, and you answer them in the comments. Q. What do you want to see on this blog? Q. Anyone have anything they want for my next story? I was thinking a fantasy or something like that, but I'd be happy to hear any thoughts readers of this blog have (few readers though I may have.) Q. Does anyone mind that I'm posting Owl City? Please comment and answer the questions. Adios!

Books, Books, and, uh, Books

Okay, sorry I haven't posted in so long. I've been gone. Anyway, I read a lot while I was gone. Here is a list of the books I liked best. 1. To Darkness Fled I got the first book in the Blood of Kings Trilogy out of the library. It's a High Fantasy (or Epic Fantasy, whichever you want to call it) but the library says it's science fiction. How weird is that? Anyway, the first book is called By Darkness Hid. It's the story of a stray (orphan) slave named Achan Cham who is given the opportunity to be a squire, and a young woman who is pretending to be a boy named Vrell Sparrow to avoid marrying the future king, who only wants to marry her so he can get his hands on her money and land. Book Two, To Darkness Fled, is amazing! I won't give any specifics because it would give away what happened in Book One. I recommend it to all fantasy lovers. People who like historical fiction might not mind it much either. Jill Williamson, the author, somehow always manages to come up with an ending that I would never have expected. The last book in the trilogy came out on April Fool's Day (which would be a few days ago. A few people asked her if it was an April Fool's Joke, including me. Her websites include http://www.jillwilliamson.com/, http://www.teenageauthor.wordpress.com/, and http://www.novelteen.com/. 2. The Last Olympian There were few surprises for me in this book, because I'd already heard what happens. It's a bit dark in places, but still enjoyable. It's not my favorite book in the Percy Jackson series, though. My favorite was The Titan's Curse. 3. Caleb + Kate I don't normally read romance, but after reading about it on http://www.christiswrite.blogspot.com/, I decided to give it a try. (After all, name one writer who only reads one or two genres.) The book was good. It's supposed to be Christian, but it didn't feel like that all the time. I don't recommend it for anyone who isn't at least thirteen, or older, depending on what your parents say. 4. The Tempest So I read Shakespeare. If you want to learn from it, I suggest you don't try to copy his style of dialogue. They saw Shakespeare isn't just for an age, but for all time. Well, his style of dialogue isn't, unless you're a poet. The Tempest is interesting, but you have to know the storyline before you read it or you might be very confused. And here's a list of books I want to read, though I haven't yet for various reasons. 1. From Darkness Won (book Three from Blood of Kings, I intend on buying this one) 2. Hunger Games 3. The Word Reclaimed 4. The Swords of Six 5. The Healer's Apprentice 6. Point Blank (book two from the Alex Rider Series) 7. The God Hater (don't judge a book by its cover... or title. It's about a strong atheist who has to design a philosophy for people in a computer program.) Hope that inspires someone to go open a book.
